Bus Stop changes for Pheasey Buses

In preparation for the Midland Metro to run through the streets of Birmingham the bus stops are being moved around.

So from the 16th February the bus stops will move from the central location of Carrs Lane to the more isolated location of Albert Street.

This LINK on the centro website shows the moves over the fortcoming months and you will agree with me the website is horrible to navigate and look at !

Pheasey Vicar leaves the BBC Pointless

Hope everyone in Pheasey had a great Xmas and New Year and from going down the Cat it appeared many enjoyed themselves.

It has been a great start to the year for Beacon Church Reverend David Weller, £1000 from the BBC show pointless. I came home from work today 10 minutes from the end and turned it on and thought I recognised the voice and there was David !

He won the competition by getting a pointless answer by saying that Coventry City football ground was one of the Olympic venues and no one else said that !! However to be honest David the answer was wrong, it is called the Ricoh arena !!

David has commented on his win by saying

Rev David says the £500 (we had to share our winnings) won`t be chnaging his life right now, but recording the show was a lot of fun. What next? The Million Pound Drop if I can persuade my wife…….

Congratulations David and lets hope it is a good sign for this year in Pheasey

New Car Parking at the Cat and Fiddle

I have not been to the ‘Cat’ since the refurb and from the outside it looks much better than this !

However it seems the new car parking arrangements have caused problems. For those that do not know, the pub car park is now a pay and display (if you use the pub it is free) and this from a few messages I have received is causing a a few problems.

Given the limited parking around NISA and the shops many people including myself used the car park (usually when not busy) to quickly park up and pick something up. However since the operation of this on Friday I have been told it has caused problems today.

Now as the car park is on private land they can enforce whatever restrictions they like but I wonder if the change of branding to a John Barras pub has come with a new attitude. Was there really a problem there before, was told school traffic was an issue but it may have unforeseen knock on effects.

Something to keep our eyes on.

Pheasey Park Farm School Governor. VOTE FOR ME !!

I am not ashamed to make a pitch for myself using this blog.

Pheasey school needs a new parent governor and I have put my name forward for the vote by parents this week. Unfortunately I can not ask for support at the school gate during the school day but I can put my case forward through this medium.

I believe as someone who has lived in Pheasey all my life (40 years of it !!) that I have the passion and drive for this area and local school. I have the skills to bring a fresh look to the school and represent parents through proper consultation and feedback.

If you are a parent of the school I urge you to vote for myself (Ian Robathan) on the ballot paper and send it in this week, I will not let down your faith in me.

Phone Mast Update from Valerie Vaz

Well the mast is finished and it is a total eyesore on Beacon Road.

Our local councillors have not replied to a further E-Mail sent by myself asking for clarification for the readers of this blog. I did see Andrian Andrew’s comments in the Great Barr Observer and I understand a Conservative leaflet has been delivered today in which they have blamed Vodafone.

I am proud that this blog first brought to the attention of people the issue with the mast and the confusion we feel. We should remember that Walsall Council did refuse permission within the 56 days notice and Vodafone are claiming that they never received this.

Valerie Vaz MP (Walsall South LAB) has been kind enough to contact myself with this statement

“I have spoken to Vodafone and I put it to them that their position on whether they received notice of refusal for planning permission should be argued before the Courts. I consider they were deemed to have notice. If they do not take down the mast, the consumers of Pheasey may not want to purchase Vodafone or O2 products. They told me they will meet with the Council on the 21 July. I hope they realise this is not an appropriate position for the mast”

The OUTRAGE of the phone mast

The mast is finally finished and it looks horrendous as these pictures show below.

Adrian Andrew did not get back with further details as he promised so I have sent a further email to the councillors asking for their thoughts. I have also contacted Valerie Vaz MP for her thoughts as well and if she can intervene. If you want your say please use the contact details above and the comments.

Details of Pheasey Neighbourhood Watch

Alan Crudden the co-ordinator of the Neighbourhood watch as written this piece for Pheasey News. If you are interested in helping out please contact Alan at Pheasey@acrunden.wanadoo.co.uk.

===================================================================

Three years ago, Neighbourhood Watch in the Pheasey Park Farm Area had slumped from over 1500 members to zero.

As the Chair in an adjacent area, I thought this was a shame and, together with the local Councillors, offered to try to set it up again. The key to linking members with a Committee are the Coordinators, who offer to be spokesmen for their `rounds`, which can vary in size from 6 or so, up to 40+. The idea size is about 20.

We were lucky At the initial meeting, a few of the people attending offered to be Coordinators, and we were off.
We are not out to make fortunes. Membership is one pound per family for a year. For that we do 4 magazines, which give hints and tips on how to prevent crime in the house, in the car, or while walking the pavements. We also publish a list of crimes which have taken place, and what is happening in our community.

Because of the increase in crimes in Park Farm, this year we have had a great increase in volunteers, so membership has rocketed. Collections are still being made, but we hope that we will have between 600 and 700 members. This may not sound a lot to some, but it has increased each year over the three years, and has been a lot of work. We cover both Pheasey and Park Farm areas.

So why haven`t you heard about us.

The answer is that we rely on our marvellous Coordinators who volunteer in the first place, and are responsible for their own patch. All they do to start with is deliver the magazines 4 times a year, and collect the Subscriptions once a year. It is impossiible for us to contact members individually, to deliver the magazines to them over the year and to keep them in touch.

So if you can spare 20 minutes for 3 times a year, and a little bit more once a year, why don`t you volunteer to be a spokesman for your neighbours. We would like to have all the households in Pheasey in our Neighbourhood Watch.

What do we do? Let you know in another article.
